Persian military hierarchy is described as below in a ladder of ranks starting with highest rank and ending with lowest rank. This is described below:
- Commander in Chief – Basically this is not a military rank by itself but this is the highest rank considered in the Persian military hierarchy. This is basically a political command. Supreme leader of Iran serves this rank.
- Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff – When considered in military, this rank is the highest one. This official handles the command of all the commanding generals of Iran military.
- Admiral / General – In Persian military hierarchy this rank is generally referred as Admiral. Since Iranian Revolution, this rank has not been conferred. This rank’s insignia donates four stars along with two crossing wheat plants.
- Vice Admiral / Lieutenant General – This rank is being inactive since the end of Iran – Iraq war. The insignia is portrayed by three stars along with two crossing wheat plants.
- Rear Admiral Upper Half / Major General – This is basically the highest active rank currently in Persian. The insignia showcases two stars along with two crossing wheat plants.
- Rear Admiral Lower Half / Brigadier General – The insignia of this rank portrays one star along with two crossing wheat plants.
- Flotilla Admiral / Brigadier General Second Class – The rank was created as a result of new and modified Persian military ranking. The insignia incorporates two crossing wheat plants.
- Colonel – Sub ordinate to Flotilla Admiral but senior most among the Field Grade officer’s category, insignia is portrayed by a qobbe (three rounded star).
- Lieutenant Colonel – Lower to Colonel Rank, the insignia is portrayed by a qobbe (two rounded star).
- Major – The insignia is portrays by a qobbe (one rounded star) and this is the lowest rank in the Field Grade officer’s category.
- Captain – Next in the hierarchy is rank Captain, a rank portrayed by insignia i.e. four stars on the shoulder and is the fourth officer rank.
- First Lieutenant – The insignia is portrayed by three stars on the shoulder and is basically a third officer rank.
- Second Lieutenant – This is the second officer rank and the insignia is represented by two stars on the shoulder.
- Third Lieutenant – The insignia is portrayed by one star on the shoulder. This is a first officer rank.
- Sergeant Major First Class – The insignia is portrayed by three chevrons diamonds which are tipped at top along with two curved strips at the bottom.
- Sergeant Major Second Class – The insignia of this rank is represented by three chevrons diamond tipped at top along with a single curved strip at the bottom.
- Sergeant First Class – The insignia of this rank is portrayed by three chevrons diamond tipped at top.
- Sergeant Second Class – This rank is represented by two chevrons diamond tipped at top.
- Sergeant – Insignia portrayed by a single diamond tipped chevron.
- Corporal – The insignia being represented by three chevrons.
Private – This rank’s insignia is portrayed by a color bordered blank shoulder strip. This is the lowest rank in Persian military hierarchy.
